Fish RescueAbout the Rescue:
When I started the fish rescueback in 2001 many people laughed at the concept. The idea quickly caught on however; and I now receive calls from all over the Greater Portland Oregonarea from people looking to "re-home" their fish, or to inquire about my inventory of fish that are ready for new homes. The concept of the fish rescue was due to my inquisitive nature and addiction to the aquarium hobby. My wife would laugh at me each time I would reach a point where I felt I had learned enough about my fish and wanted to learn about new ones. The question was always before me: "What do I do with the fish I am no longer interested in?". Then it occured to me that I was certainly not alone in this. I purchased a few tanks and started advertising my concept of a fish rescue.

It started as a way for me to place my fish in good homes and take in fish that others no longer wanted. This gave me a way to study many different kinds of aquarium fish, meet other hobbyists, and protect our natural waterways from people dumping their unwanted fish in some pond or stream due to the inability to re-home them elsewhere.

Some of the fish that are brought to me have outgrown the owners aquarium or become to aggresive. Sometimes they come in from owners who are moving and cannot take their fish with them. And of course there are many people out there like myself who enjoy learning about different fish but may not have the number of aquariums or space to setup multiple environments. Fish Rescue

When taking fish into the rescue, I make sure that they are healthy and then find them new homes unless of course they are of a variety that I have not studied yet. If they are new to me, they will become available at some point in the future after I have learned a little about them.

To learn what rescue fish are currently available for adoption, keep an eye out for our postings on Craigslist, view the list of currently available fish here on this page, or give me a call at 503-314-8253.
